The Start of a New Class
As May comes to a close, the senior class has graduated, and summer begins—filled with vacations, pool days, and a well-deserved break from school. But as June fades into July, the next group of seniors starts to realize they’re stepping into a season of “lasts.” Last first day, last football season, last homecoming… all leading to the year they’ve looked forward to since freshman year.
It’s such a unique season, filled with excitement, anticipation, and sometimes even a little bit of dread about what comes after it all ends. These moments are always so bittersweet, which is why I absolutely love capturing them. Choosing a senior photographer can feel overwhelming with so many options out there, and I never take it lightly when a senior and their family choose me to document such a special chapter.
This particular senior, Rylee, goes to the same high school where I teach. While I’ve never had her in class, I’ve known her mom—who also teaches at our school. When they reached out, I was absolutely thrilled to be part of Rylee’s senior year and to watch her shine throughout this milestone. Her energy, joy, and enthusiasm for the future lights up every photo, and I have no doubt she will go far in life.
Rylee’s session was the perfect way to kick off my senior season—it truly started with a bang!
Finding the Perfect Setting
When Rylee first reached out, she sent me her inspiration photos—mountains, beaches, and wide fields of wildflowers. Living in Eastern Kansas, I’ll admit I was a little nervous. I knew I could track down some wildflowers, but a dreamy, full-blown flower field? That felt like a stretch.
So, I started scouting. I drove around to different parks in the area, hoping something would stand out, but nothing felt quite right. As her session drew closer, I began to worry that I wouldn’t find the perfect spot to bring her vision to life.
Then, the answer practically fell into my lap. I was at a conference in Manhattan the week before Rylee’s session when I saw a friend post her maternity photos—and my jaw dropped. She was surrounded by the most stunning wildflowers I’d ever seen. Right then and there, I knew this was it. I texted her immediately to find out where the photos were taken, and to my surprise, the spot was just 20 minutes south of me—a beautiful wildflower and cut-flower farm—The Lousiburro Farm.
Long story short, the sweet farm owner welcomed us onto her property, and just like that, Rylee’s dream session location was booked!
Kansas did Kansas things
n true Kansas fashion, the day of Rylee’s session arrived hot and humid. But she didn’t let it slow her down one bit. With the sweetest laugh, a gorgeous smile, and endless energy, she powered through like a champ. Like most clients who aren’t used to being in front of a camera, there were a few nerves at the start—but she trusted the process, leaned into the fun, and before long, we were having the best time.
Rylee was up for anything I threw her way—running barefoot through the flowers, jumping around with a bouquet, and laughing through every moment. Her joy and adventurous spirit made the whole session such a blast.
This girl has such a bright future ahead, and I cannot wait to see all the amazing things she accomplishes. Senior season is officially here, and I’m so excited to meet the next senior who steps in front of my camera!
